Mobile Site for Jobseekers

Goal


Allow candidates to browse jobs, send applications, save jobs and email alerts from their mobile devices.

Context


eFinancialCareers did not have any mobile application or site and they urgently needed to be on the mobile market. After discussion with the technology team, we decided to go for a mobile site. We focused on the main mobile screen resolution of our audience which was 320x480 (iPhone 4) devices as well as the Android browser on Samsung devices (mainly S3).

Challenge


Implement a complete new global location search that no other competitor was doing as well as applying for the first time new Brand guidelines.

My Role


I was the lead designer from the high fidelity prototype creation including all flows and complex interactions of the existing desktop site, organised global user testing sessions and survey, and made the necessary amendments based on the testing results.

Process

Detailed High fidelity Prototype

Some initial benchmark, competitor and analytics research as well as a low fidelity prototype was done by a team member, which allowed me to create a detailed high fildelity prototype which included all features and case scenarios.

I tested it with internal users as the product team wanted to test it with real users on Beta launch.

Site Architecture

I created a page diagram to make sure all desktop features were included and that the relationship was logical and efficient.

User Testing of the Beta Version

A Beta version of the mobile site was launched and initially only accessible through a link, with which I organised and conducted in-house user testing sessions for it in the 3 regions, EMEA, APAC and US.

We invited some voluntary users in our offices, and conducted interviews with a "shadowing" approach that gave valuable feedback to improve the user experience.

Beta Site Feedback Survey

After the changes were made, the Beta version link was sent to a panel of 1000 users for a period of 2 weeks.

I wrote and sent a survey asking for their feedback. The results were very encouraging, and we only had to make few amendments.

This made us comfortable in launching the mobile site officially.

Visual Design

On the visual side, I have worked with an external agency to create the first initial guidelines including the new Brand.

Sample of UX Improvement

One of the improvement I made after launch was spotting a fear when candidate were asked to sign in or register to apply for a job. A small change like replacing a warning icon has made a huge difference.
